According to analysts from Google and several respected universities in the US, hackers have claimed more than USD 25.000.000 the last two years.
This huge sum have been paid as ransom from users infected with ransomware, which have locked their computers and encrypted the data on them. After infection, users have been asked to pay ransom to gain access to their files again. The study contains more than 30 types of ransomware, where especially “Cerber”, “Cryptolocker” og “Locky” are the big offenders.
It is believed that these three types of ransomware is responsible for more than 60% of the total ransom paid.
It is yet unknown if the entire amount actually have been transferred to the hackers. As of now analysts are still uncertain of the data provided in the study but it still shows an alarming rate of increased cybercrime activity. It is clear that ransomware is becoming increasingly more and more advanced, and some versions can hide themselves from even the most advanced security measures.
Keep your computer and data safe.
The main reason for ransomware infection is caused by users unknowingly installing programs with hidden malicious code, which gives hackers access to install ransomware.
For this reason we strongly recommend all users to install an up to-date antivirus or antispywareprogram such as Anti Explorator.
Anti Explorator is specifically designed to locate, identify and remove threats such as ransomware. You can download the latest version and scan your computer for any signs of ransomware.
