A recent malware attack used Dropbox to host a number of hidden programs containing malicious code. Hidden among odd or funny filenames these programs where intended to cause great harm to users.
Many users received scam mails asking them to log on to a specific Dropbox account, where users were prompted to enter personal information which hackers could use to steal confidential on personal information.
Users in Denmark, Scandinavia and Germany have been hit particularly hard, one of the reasons where the relatively well translated content, which caused many user to fall into the trap.
Drop Box were quick to close the breach of security but these incidents reminds us of the importance of staying vigilant when it comes to online security.
The method used above is as old as the Internet. You should always be extra careful when receiving mails asking you to confirm or retype any personal information. If in doubt about the authenthicicy of the mail, make sure to contact the company or person in a new mail, by phone or other medias.
