1: Use security software:
Always have at least one updated security software installed on your computer this could be an antivirus- or antispywareprogram, we also recommend to install an effective firewall. With these precautions, your computer is safe against most common threats, and in the event of a malicious attack, most programs will be able to help you, or at least guide you to someone who can.
2: Be careful when opening attached files:
One of the most typical ways of getting virus into your system is opening files sent as attachments. In most cases, these files are opened by common mistake, which in some cases leaves your computer infected with viruses and other undesired programs. We recommend that you’re always very careful with what attachments you open. Remember that files send by trusted sources could contain malicious code, if they are the victim of virus.
3: Maintain a strong password:
Passwords are one of the easiest ways to make a huge difference when it comes to your IT security – without much effort required. When creating a new password make sure to make them as complicated as possible, even if you’re thinking it’s not for important use, since it makes it much harder to guess. A great password contains both capital and non-capital letters, special characters and numbers. Never use your birthday, 12345 and such types of passwords.
4: Never submit personal information:
When browsing the internet you’re often asked to submit personal information such as your social security number, phone number, address etc. as a way to enter competitions, take “free” online-tests, og get free presents. I most cases this is nothing more than a scam made to obtain your information, which is then sold to a 3.rd party and used for marketing purposes. We recommend that you only submit personal information to sources you trust 100%.
5: Keep your programs and operating system updated.
Make sure to keep all programs on your computer 100% updated at all times. Security flaws in common programs are often used by hackers to exploit and gain access to your computer, which is why new and more secure versions of the programs are released. Make sure to always have the newest version installed on your computer or you’re more likely to be the victim of a cyber-attack. You should also be vigilant when it comes to updating your operating system on a regular basis, make sure to always download the newest version from the publishers website, and not a 3rd party website, where the software may contain malware.
We also recommend that you always backup your most important data. You can do this on a flash drive, SkyDrive or an external hard drive.
